Overview
Emerging programs are start-up urban squash and education programs developed independently of NUSEA. These groups do 100% of the work involved with creating the proper organizational structures needed to run a successful urban squash program. SquashHaven in New Haven, SurfCity Squash in San Diego, D.C. Squash Academy and SquashEmpower in Washington, D.C., and SquashScholars in Minneapolis are emerging urban squash programs. Each takes full responsibility for board development, fundraising, school and student selection and the hiring of a full time Executive Director.
NUSEA provides guidance and advice along the way, but all decisions are made solely by the program and the local Board of Directors. NUSEA works closely with emerging programs to help them develop and operate according to NUSEA’s 19 membership standards. When programs cross this threshold, they are encouraged to apply to NUSEA to become provisional and then full time members. Programs approved as provisional members receive a $10,000 grant. One year later, provisional member programs can apply to be full NUSEA members and, if they are approved, they receive an additional and final $5,000 grant.
