Recap of 2010 Urban Team Championships
and MLK Essay Contest
This past MLK weekend, 300 NUSEA student athletes from each of our nine programs in Baltimore, Boston, The Bronx, Chicago, Denver, Harlem, New Haven, Philadelphia, and San Diego travelled to Boston to compete in our seventh annual Urban Teams Championships. Our programs promote athleticism, teamwork, community building, and education, each of which was on display in full effect. This year, the tournament required a second venue due to urban squash’s rapid expansion. Once again, a great thanks goes to Harvard University for joining Northeastern University in sponsoring our seventh annual tournament.
There were truly astonishing performances by the NUSEA students on and off the court. Every year, NUSEA's Team event celebrates and showcases not only our athletic standouts, but also our academic superstars. This year the students wrote essays reflecting upon the subject of adversity. They discussed what adversity meant to them and how they encountered and overcame it in their lives. The three winning student essays are incredibly touching, remarkably well- written insights on how our students have personally confronted and overcome adversity in their lives.
